How Our Story Began

The roots of Stayton Flowers stretch back to 1910, when the original local shop first opened. Much later, in 1994, Lori helped start Lollipops and Roses alongside her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. When the former owner of Stayton Flowers retired in 2015, Lori and her husband Rob purchased the shop, merged the two businesses, and carried forward the floral legacy their community already knew well.

They also preserved several historic pieces: the original wooden work counter and the classic Stayton Flowers shop sign. These items still sit in the shop today as reminders of the business’s long local history.

Life in the Shop

Rob and Lori live in the same building as the flower shop, making mornings simple! Coffee upstairs, music on, lights flipped, and the cooler checked before the doors open at 8:30 a.m. They keep operations intentionally small, supported by one weekday team member and three additional helpers during holidays.

Freshness guides everything they do. With limited storage space, they buy flowers as needed, and nothing stays in the cooler longer than a week. Lori handles much of the hands-on design work, often shaping arrangements around conversations with customers and the meaning behind their order.

The People Who Make It Work

Rob is usually the first face customers see when they walk in or call the shop, and Lori is the steady creative force behind the design bench. The two have worked together for decades (43 years side by side!) and balance each other’s strengths seamlessly.

Their customer relationships run deep. A World War II veteran, now 102 years old, messages Rob almost daily and regularly orders flowers for a friend in Texas. When Lori sees familiar names pop up in online orders, she often knows exactly the colors or style the customer prefers!

Serving Stayton and the Communities Beyond

Rob and Lori design all of the floral pieces for Santiam Hospital, supply arrangements for employee occasions, and keep the hospital’s gift-shop cooler filled. They also work with two local funeral homes and deliver to smaller canyon communities such as Lyons, Mill City, and Gates, which are nearby areas without their own florists.

One of the most meaningful projects they completed was creating the floral pieces for a memorial service. Helping the family bring their vision to life is something Rob and Lori still remember.

Stayton Flowers continues to serve the community with the same care, consistency, and personal connection that have shaped Rob and Lori’s work for years.
